I would like to work on the evolution of the immune system. This is because, I find this system of our body really fascinating, that can tackle so many millions of types of infection causing microbes. Also because, infections and diseases are a never ending problems, and we need more and more understanding of how we can make things better.

Which area of science do you find most interesting?

If it was a completely different area, then probably researching Alzheimer’s disease. It’s poorly recognised as a major health problem (it causes 60, 000 deaths a year in the UK alone) and we really know too little about its causes and how to treat it.

Working in this area of science would be very different to what I do now – many scientists work on finding new things out to improve our understanding of science, but I research and develop products that are used by scientists in universities to help make these new discoveries 🙂

I’d love to do something in neuroscience, perhaps at the molecular level. I think that the nervous system (in particular the brain) is fascinating, and would love to help understand more about how it works. There’s lots of interesting modelling of neural networks with maths and computers, and I’d like to think I could get involved with that some day!
