You’ll probably be vomiting or have diarrhoea, or have both – very unpleasant! These are the typical symptoms that you get, but they can be caused by different bacteria. Some bacteria make you only vomit, whilst others cause just diarrhoea, depending on the toxins they produce. The bacteria make this happen as it’s an effective way to spread to another person – many cases of food poisoning are caused by people not washing their hands properly and handling food – urgh!

Many cases don’t get reported though, because food poisoning usually lasts one or two days so you don’t get time to see a doctor – and even if you did antibiotics would be pointless because by the time they start working you’d already feel better.
