• Question: it is possible that there could be another big bang within my lifetime?

      No there will be no other big bang in our lifetime! At least we can live in peace, another big bang would mean that we would probably will have to be extinct!

      It’s incredibly unlikely! But it is technically possible. Just as it’s technically possible that the positions of particles will line up so that you can put your hand through the wall next to you. That’s just the weirdness of quantum mechanics for you. But the chances of things like that happening are so vanishingly small that we can safely say they’ll never happen!

      Some scientists believe that the Big Bang was caused by the universe expanding and collapsing due to gravity and exploding out again, which they think could happen again. They think the gravity needed for this to happen is caused by dark matter which makes up most of our universe (but we still don’t know what it is). So although another Big Bang may not be impossible – as we still don’t know what caused it – it’s incredibly unlikely to happen, especially in your lifetime!
