      Atoms are made of protons and neutrons surrounded by negatively charged electrons. Protons and neutrons are made of smaller particles called quarks. It’s not known what electrons and quarks are actually made of – they may be made of smaller particles that we haven’t yet discovered. After all, we used to think the smallest matter was an atom….
