      Hi shelby1

Tears are produced by tiny glands in the corner of the eye called lacrimal glands or tear glands.

There are several causes to produce tears. We produce a little all the time to keep our eyes clean – tears contain an enzyme that kills bacteria to prevent eye infections.

When we’re emotional, our brain instructs our nervous system to produce chemicals to act on our tear glands, producing tears. These tears are a little different to those produced when we’re not emotional, having a different composition.
